“Create so much positive that any negative is a drop in a sea versus a drop in a glass.” -Dr.Talaya Waller
It’s not hard to imagine that the possibilities are endless for one who starts their first business venture as a high school student. Dr. Talaya Waller, CEO/Founder of Waller & Company, started her entrepreneurial journey as a violinist in a musical group she pioneered called Young Inspirations. While other teenagers her age were depending on allowances from their parents, she was creating a stream of income for herself and others performing at weddings and other small gigs within the community.
“I didn’t always know that I wanted to be an entrepreneur, but I always knew I wanted to be a businesswoman,” she recalls. Upon receiving her MBA in General Management from Troy University, she began her pursuit to become a successful businesswoman. “I got my first job, held it for less than a year and hated it so much that I ended up quitting,” which lead to her next business venture, Pepper & Pearls, a traveling workout company that hosted parties for small groups. Dr. Waller soon realized, money nor working out were motivators for her. Her passions lie in her desire to impact the lives of others. That’s what fueled her then and what continues to fuel her today.
In 2014, Dr. Waller founded Waller & Company Personal Branding Consulting, which allows her to impact lives on a personal level every day. As a personal branding consultant, “We are managing and changing the perception of people.” That’s an aspect of the job that Dr.Waller understands all too well as part of a military family. Throughout her childhood, there was one constant; change! She became a natural at adapting to new environments, meeting new people and circumventing change; all skills that are paramount in personal branding.
As a minority businesswoman, Dr.Waller has a keen understanding of the importance of personal branding and the impact it can have on the opportunities that are available to someone. “Personal branding is planting a seed in the mind of your target audience by sharing and crafting your story.” Adding, “We often have to transcend stereotypes through storytelling.”
Waller & Company has successfully been able to brand their clients as “Thought-leaders” in their respective fields by providing a range of services such as online presence strategy, public relations and crisis management. The importance of a simple headshot and an online presence via a website or blog are essential elements of the branding puzzle that Waller & Company help to streamline for their clients.
Currently, Dr. Waller is working on growing Waller & Company into a personal branding powerhouse while adding yet another title to her impressive resume–author.
